Wood Street to Myrtle Street – Weather permitting, motorists will face lane closures at different points along U.S. 301 (Washington Boulevard) in both directions between the railroad tracks and north of 12th Street, 6:30 pm to 6:00 am the next day, Sunday, July 11 through Friday, July 16. The lane closures from the railroad tracks to 12th Street will be for installing curbs and paving the new outside U.S. 301 lanes, while the closings north of 12th Street will be for installing drainage structures. The outside northbound lane of U.S. 301 between Main Street and 10th Street will be closed at different points after 8:00 pm on Tuesday, July 13 and Wednesday, July 14 for the installation of new streetlight bases and sidewalk replacement. Construction activities that will be done without closing lanes include installation of the limerock base for the new southbound U.S. 301 travel lane between Myrtle Street and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Way, installation of stabilizer for the new southbound U.S. 301 travel lane between MLK Way and 21st Street, installation of a new water line along northbound U.S. 301 between MLK Way and Myrtle Street, installation of streetlights along U.S. 301 south of Myrtle Street and retention pond excavation. Entrances to businesses in the construction zone, including those where temporary barrier walls are in place, remain open and accessible to motorists. Drivers are reminded to obey the posted speed limit and drive with extra caution to protect themselves, construction workers and pedestrians, including bicyclists. Fines are doubled for speeding infractions in the construction zone when workers are present.
