Work Week Starting July 18, 2010
Myrtle Street to DeSoto Road – Motorists traveling on southbound U.S. 301 (Washington Boulevard) between DeSoto Road and Myrtle Street will experience intermittent lane closures, 7:00 pm to 5:00 am the following day, Tuesday, July 20 through Friday, July 23 for the installation of storm drains. The exact location of the lane closure will change from night to night and the work will have no impact on northbound U.S. 301 traffic. Another storm drain installation will require a flagging operation at the entrance to Northgate Boulevard starting at 7:00 pm on Sunday, July 18 and Monday, July 19. Motorists will have full access to Northgate Boulevard and the businesses it serves from northbound and southbound U.S. 301 while this work is underway. This work is not expected to impact traffic on U.S. 301 in either direction. Construction activities on this week’s schedule that will be done without closing lanes include retention pond excavation, the extension of a box culvert, utility relocation, removal of the old U.S. 301 southbound road bed and clearing and grubbing. Motorists are reminded to observe the posted speed limit and to drive with extra caution in the construction zone for the protection of themselves, construction workers and pedestrians, including bicyclists. Fines are doubled for speeding infractions in the construction zone while workers are present. The general contractor is Cone & Graham, Inc.
